Buying with Confidence

Buying an original work of art is a considered decision. This page sets out what you receive with every work, how it is protected on its way to you, and what happens if something isn’t right.

Certificate of Authenticity

Every original work sold by JG Contemporary comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and every sale is recorded in our gallery register.

Your certificate is a signed PDF, emailed to you shortly after your work is dispatched. It is locked so its details can’t be altered, and we will reissue it whenever you need it, as many times as you need it. A printed copy is available on request.

Each certificate records:

  • the artist’s name and year of birth
  • the title, year of creation and medium
  • dimensions, framed and unframed
  • whether the work is unique or part of an edition, with edition number and size
  • where the artist has signed the work
  • a unique certificate number
  • the date of acquisition and our contact details
  • a signed statement of authenticity from JG Contemporary

The artist signs the artwork; we authenticate the sale and its provenance. The certificate number is also recorded in our register and on a label on the back of the work, so even if the paperwork is mislaid, the work can always be traced.

Limited editions

Editions are signed and numbered by the artist, with the edition number and edition size marked on the work itself. Every edition sale is recorded in our register, and we will issue a certificate on request at any time, even years after purchase.

Verifying, replacing and reselling

To verify a JG Contemporary work, including one bought on the secondary market or inherited, email the certificate number to jewel@jgcontemporary.com. We will confirm the work, the year of sale and whether the certificate matches our record, whether or not you bought it from us.

If a certificate is lost, send us whatever details you have, and if they match our register we will issue a replacement free of charge. If you sell, gift or bequeath a work, pass the certificate on with it. A documented chain of ownership protects the work’s value. If you are reselling, let us know; we may be able to help place it.

Certificate numbering began in 2026. Earlier certificates remain valid, and we can issue a numbered replacement on request.

Packaging and insured worldwide shipping

  • Unframed works on paper: wrapped in archival tissue and sent in a rigid tube or flat between acid-free boards, inside a protective outer carton.
  • Framed works and originals on board or canvas: corner-protected, wrapped in conservation glassine, boxed with custom foam inserts, and double-boxed for international delivery.
  • Oversized or fragile works: crated on request, so please ask before ordering.

All shipments are fully insured at the purchase price and sent by tracked, signed-for courier. International buyers are responsible for any import duties or taxes due on arrival. If anything arrives damaged, keep all the packaging and tell us within 48 hours; we will handle the insurance claim for you.

Framing

Where a work is available framed, this is shown on its product page. Our framers use conservation-grade materials: UV-protective glass, acid-free mounts and sustainably sourced mouldings. For a bespoke framing option, just ask.

Paying in instalments

You can spread the cost over 3, 6 or 12 months interest-free with Shop Pay Instalments at checkout. For larger works we also offer a direct payment plan of two to four bank transfers, with the work released once it is paid in full.

Returns

If you’re not entirely satisfied with your artwork, you can return it within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, provided it is returned in the condition it was dispatched. Commissioned and bespoke works are excepted. Please contact us before returning a work so we can arrange safe collection or packing.

Questions

We are always happy to talk before you buy. Email jewel@jgcontemporary.com or call 07525 143 009, and we will reply within one working day.

Copyright

Copyright stays with the artist. Buying a work gives you the physical piece, not the right to reproduce it. Photographing it for personal or insurance purposes is fine; for anything commercial, we can put you in touch with the artist.
